Trivia (Who Fax)

Yes, it really was plotted at 15 episodes so it would break the Most Episodes record previously held by The Trial of a Time Lord.
Of the three sections to the story, writer Robin-Mary Manseth was least satisfied with The Time Lords part.
It was originally intended that the Doctor would actually interact with Rassilon and try to stop him from creating the Eye of Harmony.
The Garadanians were a parallel to the Jews.
The part of the story where they travel back to the caveman period of Garadain was an homage to An Unearthly Child, one of [Robin-Mary] Manseth's favourite stories.
The script took a year to write.
Christine's exclamation "Demons of Midnight" was a reference to her cat, named Midnight, who was well known to the cast to be a particularly aggressive "demon". Most every recording session (back in the days when the show was recorded ensemble) at least one person (often more) would come away with an injury inflicted by the cat.
First Officer Klent was another homage, this time to Mr Fibuli from The Pirate Planet.
Sheri Devine, who played Captain Shult, was convinced to take the role by being promised a character who was "a real bad guy role".
Jym DeNatale, the Doctor, was specifically asked how his character would respond to Christine's dilemma when it came to playing the role of a god.
The subplot of history twisting outside of time was something [Robin-Mary] Manseth felt was worthy of a story of its own, and was disappointed that it was so limited in Time's Champions.
The story title actually refers to the Time Lords and not, as some have supposed, to the Garadanians.
When each section of the story received its own title, this was done almost at the last minute and was another homage, this time to Battlestar Galactica which did the same thing to the first two episodes of the series.
